Carefree At Christie Pits Park

City Living, Dovercourt Village

The sunshine has been out all week, but the air is definitely getting cooler! As temps drop, so does some of our interest in outdoor recreation, but with a mild Fall ahead there is still plenty of time to enjoy hiking, biking and all the fabulous green spaces in the city.  Stepping outside and simply breathing in the crisp Fall air never fails to elevate my mood, and I find nothing clears my head and inspires my creativity as much as a stroll through my local park. (I love to bring a blanket and a book along too!)

One of my favourites is the large and lovely Christie Pits Park, located right across from the Christie subway station, at Christie St. and Bloor St. West.

Considered one of Toronto’s biggest and most well-loved green spaces alongside High Park and Trinity Bellwoods, Christie Pitts is a huge 8.9-hectare park with something for everyone. No wonder it’s become such a community hub!

In the warmer months, families love the splash pad, labyrinth and playground. There is also Alex Duff Memorial Pool that has a full 25m lap pool, splash pool, water slide and spring diving board – perfect on those humid August days when the clunking window A/C unit just isn’t cutting it!

Sports lovers rejoice! Christie Pits has something for almost any type of athlete; there are multi-purpose fields, volleyball courts, baseball diamonds, and basketball courts too!

This is an all-season entertainment space! In the winter, you can lace up your skates at the artificial rink, and the gentle slopes that surround the park are perfect for tobogganing (which was a favourite social-distanced outdoor activity amongst Torontonians this past winter).

It’s harvest time! Christie Pits Park has a large community garden, which is truly an urban treasure. Members of the community can grow their own food plants, herbs and flowers, but many choose to grow fruits and vegetables, which is a pastime that has gained much popularity during the pandemic. (Have you seen our post on Hipsteading and urbanites seeking to live off the land more sustainably? The Movement To Hipsteading During The Covid-19 Pandemic & Toronto Real Estate).

And if you’re not feeling overactive, trails meander and intersect the park, perfect for walkers, runners and strollers.

And while we’re currently touting its best qualities, none of this is new to most Torontonians. After all, this is a park with history; it was converted to parkland over a century ago in 1909. Those slopes that surround the parkland and today are known for great tobogganing pitches were formally the Christie Sand Pits.

Today, it has an active community association called the Friends of Christie Pits that bands together to keep the park beautiful and accessible for all. They also organized community events for all ages! Check them out!

How special would it be to live only minutes from one of Toronto’s best green spaces? What if you could take an invigorating and inspiring walk or have a family picnic on a whim? If you lived in a home with the proximity of our past listing on Hallam Street, you’d be just a short stroll away!

Want to have someone on your side?

Since 1989, I’ve steered my career through a real estate market crash and burn; survived a slow painful cross-country recession; completed an M.E.S. graduate degree from York University called ‘Planning Housing Environments’; executed the concept, sales & marketing of multiple new condo and vintage loft conversions; and guided hundreds of clients through the purchase and sale of hundreds of freehold and condominium dwellings across the original City of Toronto. From a gritty port industrial city into a glittering post-industrial global centre, I’ve navigated the ebbs and flows of a property market as a consistent Top Producer. And I remain as passionate about it today as when I started.
