Stephenson Park Near Main And Danforth

City Living, The Danforth

As the May flowers bloom and the vigour of Spring transforms Toronto’s landscape, we’ve been reflecting on the places we’re incredibly thankful for in this City. We don’t mean a warm bed or comfy family couch (although those are top contenders); we’re talking about the places in our community – or beyond – that enrich our daily life.

Personally, we love quiet mornings – coffee in hand – watching the dogs run, or taking a peaceful stroll with a best friend and an ice cream cone, or finding shade under a tree and unpacking a bag of drinks and snacks. None of these favourite activities would be possible without Toronto’s brilliant parks and green spaces. And some of the ‘best’ aren’t even the most sprawling or as well-known as Trinity Bellwoods and High Park.

We’ve raved about many of Toronto’s lesser know green spaces, including Rennie Park, Sorauren Park, East Lynn Park and Monarch Park! But today we’re talking about Stephenson Park! Have you been?

It was named after Donald George Stephenson, a lumber merchant and the first reeve (read: mayor) of the Village of East Toronto! Besides the taken-for-granted lush greenery, benches, picnic tables and drinking fountains, the park’s additional attractions include a ball diamond, playground, and field house!

There’s also a wading pad, fire pit, and a hockey rink in the winter!

And, last but not least, an amazing ping-pong table!

But what’s most appealing about Stephenson Park is more than the pleasant swaths of grass or a ball diamond; green spaces like this are the hubs of their neighbourhoods, and play a large role in cultivating a strong sense of community for residents!

Dreamy!!
