Bickford Park: An Oasis Of Green

City Living

For urban dwellers, proximity to the respite of city green spaces – providing a rejuvinating brush with nature amid all the glass and concrete – is consistently one of the most sought-after ‘must have’ amenities. Toronto is unique in that it’s downtown core is considered one of the greenest in the world by virtue of our tree count alone! I’ve always thought it particularly amazing (and a testament to the forethought of our urban planners) that, whether a sprawling feild or petite parkette – these veritable secret gardens have been lovingly cultivated and maintained for decades.

Today we explored a peaceful ‘hilled-in’ pocket of green in the west end of Toronto…

We declare it: Blickford Park has everything you need for a perfect park experience!

From a fenced-in off-leash dog area, to a baseball diamond, to feild space for your favourite sport – this park is dynamic in it’s offerings. The best part, in our opinion? Despite it’s location, it has mysteriously maintained its status as one of the quieter parks in the area, meaning less people and more room relax or roam – both physically and mentally.

Located on the corner of Harbord and Grace, just south of Bloor (and it’s sister park, massive Christie Pits), Bickford Park is particularly great for those who prefer to exercise outdoors, using natural terrain for things like resistance and endurance training. It has hills and trails to run on, lots of benches that quickly become aids for push-ups, ab crunches, or tricep dips.

It also has public washrooms conveniently located on the South-East side of the park, which is always handy, particularly if you’re spending the afternoon.

And there’s some cool unexpected street art! If you’re a fan of Graffiti Alley, follow the hill on the North-West side of the park onto Peperonata Lane, and we guarantee you’ll adore the colourful murals painted on garage doors and fences.

An Urbaneer Tip: Before you head over to Bickford Park for your morning or mid-afternoon stroll, stop across the street at Sweetie Pie, a bakery known for their milkshakes, pies, and cookies (drool!). They even have Kawartha’s ice cream, perfect for a hot summer’s day!

So on your next visit, don’t forget to bring a frisbee, your dog, and an ice cream cone – we guarantee you’ll be set for a beautiful afternoon!

Enjoy the sun and have fun!

How relaxing and lovely would it be, knowing this green sanctuary is only 2 minutes from your front door and you could stroll over to Bickford Park whenever you felt like it? The dog owners out there know it’s bliss to have a leash-free dog park so close to home!! This would be your new reality if you lived at 200 Clinton Street #3: a handsomely-proportioned  bed + den loft townhouse, which we dubbed  An Authentic Brick & Beam Loft Townhouse In Little Italy’s Button Factory‘! Offered for sale at $1,484,900!
