Comfort Food Wishes Come True At Wish Cafe On Charles Street

City Living, Restaurants, Yorkville / Summerhill / Rosedale

Comfort food is al about flavour and familiarity. That’s one of the many things that’s so special about Wish Cafe & Bar located on Charles Street East, just west of Yonge Street. The atmosphere is inclusive and homey, yet the decor and vibe is contemporary cool – with and sumptuously savoury menu to boot! Eating at Wish is an endearing combination of being ‘in the centre of it all’ and lounging on your best friend’s terrace – happening and relaxing in equal parts.

And speaking of porches, Wish’s patio is easily one of the best people-watching spots around – which is perfect while indoor dining is still off limits Toronto. Just remember to BYOB (Bring. Your. Own. Blanket.)! With the chilly weather coming, it’s the perfect time to add gloves, a scarf and an easy carry blanket to your essentials list when supporting local businesses.

With the shops of Yonge Street to the west and Yorkville and the bright lights of Bloor to the north – including all the foot traffic that such coveted location implies – Wish is a bit of a hot spot! despite that management remains grounded, focusing on offering their winning combination of incredible food served by genuinely caring staff who make you feel like old friends.

The popular cafe & bar calls their decor sentimental ‘South Beach’ – and it doesn’t disappoint! Think cushioned benches, distressed wood, pristine white pillows, vintage furniture pieces, and plenty of palms and greenery. A friend commented that billowing shears wouldn’t be out of place in this scene, and he’s right. And while the look may not be novel or overtly luxe, it has a beach house elegance that’s quite difficult to pull off in the concrete-clad downtown core of a major urban centre! Kudos!

And. The. Food! I don’t know about you, but I’ve gained an entirely new appreciation for the comfort food experience during the pandemic; I’m not just talking about flavours and dishes that feed your heart and soul, but also the opportunity to break bread with loved ones. I relish the whole experience – particularly at a time when we all feel so isolated.

Wish is the spot for just that; they deliver mouth-watering dishes with elegant twist that you wouldn’t expect – warming bellies and hearts alike! The mouth-watering turkey burger and fries is quite possibly the best I’ve had in the city!! Be sure to try other succulent offerings like the BBQ prawns, gnocci & shortrib ragu, salmon, and several flavourful takes on classic burgers.

It’s worthwhile to note I’m using the term comfort food quite broadly, as their dinner menu includes dishes as complex as they are delicious!

So what can you expect next time you stop by? Well be sure to make a reservation, as its popularity persists – despite the shadow of COVID-19.

This is the perfect spot to meet with your friends – for a special occasion – or just because! They have a great brunch, and simple but stunning fare for lunch and dinner – not to mention an impressive cocktail list.
