September’s Dear Urbaneer was entitled, ‘What Does ‘Buying Canadian’ Mean For House & Home?‘ This month, I am looking at what it means to buy, renovate and design Canadian. The question reads: “There has been a lot of discussion in the media lately about buying Canadian and supporting Canadian products and services. It’s made me think beyond groceries and everyday goods to the money I spend on my home. As a homeowner, I know there must be plenty of ways to support Canadian, whether I’m shopping for furniture and decor, renovating or choosing building materials. But I’m also interested in celebrating Canadian culture and identity through the way I design and decorate my home, without falling into obvious Canadiana. Where should I start?”  Read on for Steve’s reply and insight!

Steve and the Urbaneer Team post weekly blogs that share our love of all things real estate and that celebrate Toronto! Below are three of our most popular posts this past month:

One of our most well-read pieces was: ‘Toronto’s Blake-Jones Neighbourhood & Its Two-Speed Real Estate Market’. Blake-Jones is behaving like a two-speed market, with long-term owners selling in one segment while substantially renovated and redeveloped properties are achieving a very different level of value. The difference is significant. Between 2020 and 2026, 38 detached single-family homes in Blake-Jones sold for more than $1.7 million on MLS. Twenty-eight were sold by long-term owners, while ten appeared to have been renovated or redeveloped for profit. The long-term-owner properties averaged $1,958,116, while the profit-motivated properties averaged $2,236,180. That is an average difference of $278,064 — or 12.5% more. That 12.5% premium is the story.

Another popular piece was ‘Toronto After Dark: Celebrating 20 Years Of Nuit Blanche‘. Toronto is a city jam-packed with amazing cultural offerings, but every once in a while something comes along that turns the whole city itself into the attraction. Enter Nuit Blanche Toronto, the wonderfully weird, wildly imaginative, stay-up-way-past-your-bedtime celebration of contemporary art that returns this upcoming Saturday, October 3rd. From 7pm Saturday until 7am Sunday, Toronto’s streets, civic spaces, cultural institutions, parking garages and unexpected corners will become one enormous free art exhibition. And this year is a biggie: Nuit Blanche is celebrating its 20th anniversary!

We also received a great response to our blog post, ‘The Fall Home Show Comes To Toronto This Weekend!‘. If you know Urbaneer, you know we have a bit of a obsession problem when it comes to house, home and habitat. Show us an unusual floor plan, a clever renovation, a spectacular light fixture, or a paint colour with an absurdly poetic name and we’re instantly intrigued. So naturally, the arrival of the Fall Home Show, happening October 2nd to 4th at the Enercare Centre at Exhibition Place, has our attention. With more than 225 home and lifestyle vendors and experts gathered under one roof, it’s essentially a giant playground for anyone who has ever lost an entire evening looking at kitchens, bathrooms, furniture, finishes, gardens, gadgets, or things they did not know they desperately needed until five minutes ago.
