August’s Dear Urbaneer was entitled, ‘Are Wood-Burning Fireplaces Still Permitted in Toronto? What Other Options Are There?‘ This month, Steve is helping a dwell hunter who dreams of relaxing by the fireplace on still, wintry nights. The question reads: The feature that’s at the top of my house-hunting wish list is a fireplace. I love how it’s a warm and welcoming focal point, and the cozy ambiance it gives. I grew up with a wood-burning fireplace, and the scent and sound of a roaring hearth on a cold winter’s night evokes good sentimental memories. I was recently told they’re harder to come by and no longer permitted in Toronto? Is that true? Are there alternatives?” Read on for his insight!

Steve and the Urbaneer Team post weekly blogs that share our love of all things real estate and that celebrate Toronto! Below are three of our most well-read posts this past month:

Our most well-read piece was: ‘Why Toronto And Its Residents Benefit From Building Multiplex Condos‘. In June 2025, the Toronto City Council voted to allow fiveplexes and sixplexes in designated neighbourhoods. The previous zoning from 2023 permits no more than four units in a building, and the proposal expanded the as-of-right zoning to include six units, with anything above that considered an apartment building. Although it was proposed city-wide, only 9 of 25 wards voted to permit the sixplexes. The response to this has been mixed, with many housing advocates disappointed in the outcome and hopeful for more opportunities to create the much-needed missing middle housing. Check out our discussion!

Another popular piece was ‘East Lynn Park Is The Heart Of Its Community‘. Personally, I love quiet mornings – coffee in hand – soaking in Toronto’s sights and sounds from a park bench, taking a peaceful stroll with a bestie or four-pawed friend down a tree-lined path, or finding a shady hill and unpacking a bag of drinks and snacks. None of these favourite activities would be possible without Toronto’s brilliant parks and green spaces. Preserved and cultivated across the city, these treasured slices of the natural world provide a multitude of invaluable mental, physical and social health benefits for urban dwellers! From small to ‘sprawl’, each urban park has its own unique character and serves the city and its immediate neighbourhood in different ways. Even more, I adore how these ‘green spaces’ become ‘multi colour spaces’, so to speak, when Autumn arrives!

We also had a great response to our blog, ‘When You’re At WAG, You’re Family!‘. Move over PetSmart – we’ve got a new favourite! As we all know, bigger doesn’t always equal better. This especially rings true at Wag, a small family-run business on the Danforth at Woodbine that carries a wide variety of all-natural foods for dogs, cats, small animals and birds. They also have a solid variety of supplements, toys, and accessories. As a boutique outfit, owners Ruth Heathcote and Rob Riley have earned the reputation of running that extra mile to find – or special order – the product that’s right for your pet companion.

And – for lovers of unique urban spaces – don’t miss our sensational Toronto real estate listed for sale or lease on our site for your consideration!
