These Are A Few Of My Favourite… Bloor West Village Food Vendors!

Welcome! I’m Cynthia Rose – part of the Urbaneer team – and I specialize in buying & selling real estate in Swansea & Bloor West Village!

For William Rennie (1835-1910), who was an agriculturist, seed merchant, author, and one of the original developers of the Village of Swansea – the area now known as the Swansea neighbourhood – the holidays didn’t get much better than a good ol’ curling party! That was his festive pleasure.

For me, the holidays are all about indulging in deliciousness. Whether it’s a quiet evening at home, an impromptu gathering, a friendly potluck or the most delicious host offering, I love shopping for new and indulgent culinary treats in my community of Swansea and neighbouring Bloor West Village. So here are a few of my favourite new purveyors of delectable eats n’ treats found in BWV!

Top of my list of new favourites goes to Hooked, Inc. Welcomed into the west-end fold in 2019 this shop has quickly become a local favourite. Whether it’s their Cold Double-Smoked Steelhead Salmon or the Butterfield Branzino – you cannot go wrong – it’s delicious seafood all day, every day. Their in-house-made spreads are ridiculous! I especially love their caper cream cheese. Our own gatherings are never complete without ordering up a couple dozen freshly shucked East Coast oysters. As Hooked aptly puts it, oysters are an invitation that says “welcome home, come in, sit down, set aside your troubles, cheers, and I’ll toast to that!” all rolled into one. Check out or pop by 18 Ripley Avenue in Toronto.

The Cheese Boutique is an obviously fine food choice on everyone’s list, but my hat goes to the newest addition to The Cheese Boutique family, the CB Bottega. This is by far my latest and greatest pitstop favourite in the hood. The front of the shop serves up hot and delicious beverages with no shortage of decadent freshly baked goods to choose from, including the best, melt-in-your-mouth biscotti in a dozen different flavour combinations. Walk through to the back and you have oodles of readymade goodness to choose from. I am a huge fan of their apps, sandwiches and sides that can work as yummy fuel on the go, or the makings of a fantastic and easy spread for guests. I would also be remised, if I didn’t mention the fun of wandering through the CB Bottega for its curated stock of kitchenware and culinary must-haves for the chefs on your list. Most definitely worth a visit found at 29 Ripley Avenue!

And last, but certainly not least, you. must. run. (not walk!) to the newly-opened Apulia Gastronomia! Yum, yum, yummer doodles! Serving authentic Italian food, including handmade pasta and other inspired dishes from the beloved Italian region of Puglia, owners Stefano and Maria Trivisani proudly share their culinary heritage with customers. This family-run business is devoted to the passion and quality of Italy, its culture and its food. Imagine what Nonna would serve… that comforting, flavourful, soul-stroking food is ready to bring home to your loved ones. Most of their dishes pay tribute to a patient slow-cooking or made-from-scratch process, and all are made to order with love. So, do yourself a favour by picking up the Lasagna Emiliana which is truly a show-stopper! That said, the Gnocchi All Sorrentina is also a fav of mine – YUM! Come on, Bloor West Village – stocking the pantry and/or freezer has never been easier or more delicious! Visit Apulia Gastronomia at 259 Armadale Avenue or order online at

I’m turning this into a new Bloor West Village blog series! Stay tuned for the next instalment, where I explore ways to embrace self-improvement in the New Year!!
