Do you have a favourite neighbourhood place where you meet friends for a quick visit, pick up your daily cup of java, or hide out with a good book for a bit of solitude? If you live in The Junction neighbourhood, there is a pretty good chance that place is The Good Neighbour Espresso Bar, located at the corner of Annette Street and Quebec Avenue.
This charming neighbourhood spot has been serving up tasty caffeinated bevvies along with sweet treats and snacks since 2010, but it fits in so seamlessly with the area that it feels like it has been around forever. The first thing you'll notice is the super laid-back vibe. It feels less like your typical coffee house, and more like an extension of your living room – if your living room had that cool, urban vibe all city dwellers seek. It’s a cool, airy space with exposed brick walls, lots of natural light, and plenty of comfortable seating options. The owners did a great job creating a warm and inviting space by using re-purposed materials in their design. In fact, the bar was made of wood from a lane of a local bowling alley which closed down years ago, and the light fixtures were handmade by the owner of Eclectic Revival, a neighbourhood antique lighting store.
When we stopped by recently, the place was buzzing with energy! There were a few occupied tables of friends chatting about their day, while others patrons sat quietly working away on their laptops. Whether you’re catching up with a friend, picking up your morning latte or just taking a quick break to recharge, this place will make you feel like all is well with the world. In fact, if feels a bit like time stands still here. And as the warm weather arrives, we're sure that the feel-good energy of this establishment will spill out onto their outdoor patio, which is where we hope to sit on our next visit!
But there’s more then just a cool vibe here… There's also the coffee! Whether it’s a cappuccino, a latte, or an Americano, these espresso-based creations are truly rich with flavour. The Good Neighbour also offers sandwiches and salads if you’re looking for something a bit more substantial, but it's their variety of sweet treats that – excuse the pun – really take the cake! If you're somewhat of a chocolate fiend, you must try the brownie. But beware, you might not be able to just stop at one!
The Good Neighbour Espresso Bar is located at 238 Annette Street in The Junction.
