Bites Of Bliss At Le Petit Déjeuner In St. Lawrence Market

City Living, Restaurants, St. Lawrence Market

As the weather warms up, the sun kisses our faces, and COVID-19 retreats from our radar (it’s still here, right?), Torontonians are exiting their domestic cocoons after 2 years of lockdown to embrace city life in full swing! Even the Urbaneer Team is ready for everything summer – including hitting up the patios, strolling through our parks, and supporting as many local purveyors as possible. After all, small businesses, in particular, need our support if we want to continue enjoying the same rich colourful array of urban amenities as we enjoyed pre-pandemic. Otherwise, the alternative could be a future of empty forlorn main streets where all the creative entrepreneurs and ‘Mom & Pop’ shops are boarded up and vacant. We try to keep that in mind before ordering deliveries from Amazon, Uniqlo & Ikea!

One of my favourite Toronto adventures is to set out on a Saturday or Sunday on my bike – with only a vague idea of what I might do – and see what piques my curiosity! This past weekend I ended up strolling through St. Lawrence Market for some savoury shopping… which turned into an hour of culinary exploration! Afterward, I stopped to refuel and relax with brunch at Le Petit Dejeuner!

Located at 191 King Street East – between Jarvis and Sherbourne Streets – this is comfort food times a million! The all-day breakfast is perfection when you’re craving an omelet and bacon, but my favourites are the eggs benny and their signature melt-in-your-mouth Belgian waffles are truly a must-try. (Voted best waffles in the City by BlogTO!)

“Since October 2002, we have cracked a quarter million eggs, offered thousands of smiles and served hundreds of coffees. You’ve come, eaten (also smiled), and moved on. We’re a small part of your day but hopefully a memorable one.” – Le Petit Dejeuner

Owner/chef Johan Maes has run this family business for over two decades, ensuring many of the ingredients come from the local markets and farms. Moreover, he loves using traditional equipment and house preparation methods to create their signature dishes? This is feel-good family fare!

Le Petit Dejeuner is known for its legendary breakfast and lunch seatings which are active and engaging (5 days a week), but they’re also open for dinner on Friday and Saturday where the pace is more relaxed and the environment more intimate; expect a seasonal menu that showcases family recipe specialties!
