Home Sweet Home Near The St. Lawrence Market
We love the St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood! We adore its charming streetscapes and vintage buildings, the colourful mix of retail and cafes, its lickety-split accessibility, and its village-like ambience. We find it amazing that one can enjoy a comfortable, engaging walking life right next to the ‘Bright Lights, Big City’ vibe of the Financial & Entertainment Districts, while being only steps from Union Station and the subway line, just north of Harbourfront and the serenity of Lake Ontario, and just east of the Distillery District and Corktown – two of the city’s most dynamic emerging locations!
Did you know King Street was one of the first streets laid in 1793 in the Town of York before it even became Toronto? Back in the late 1800s, the Town of York, of which the St. Lawrence Market was part, was home to people that worked in the area, traded, sold, socialized, attended church and, on occasion, formed secret alliances and planned rebellions and uprisings. Fast-forward to the 21st century, and you have a versatile neighbourhood where old and new coexist. Torontonians and tourists alike are drawn to the character and patina of the century-old three and four-storey brick buildings that make up Toronto’s famed St Lawrence Market neighbourhood. The area has the benefit of not being over-developed with high-density towers that loom ominously over the streetscape, rendering dark shadows and wind tunnels. In fact, we’re always struck by the abundant natural light and expanses of sky and sun that kiss this thoughtfully-scaled neighbourhood. It’s one of the intangible reasons that make this location so magnetic.
Another reason is all of the inspiring, interesting and delicious places to explore, including the diverse and dynamic St. Lawrence Market, with its purveyors of fresh produce and specialty foods! We also love all the cafes and restaurants that dot the area including Fusaro’s Italian Kitchen East and Cafe 260 on nearby Richmond Street, the George Street Diner, and the BeerBistro located on King Street East. Line up for brunch at waffle-specialists, Le Petit Dejeuner, or settle in for an after-work cocktail and nosh at the Carbon Bar.
And for those with a love of design, you’re smack dab in the centre of oodles of design retailers and art galleries! Take a walk through the Sunday Antique Market (temporarily closed due to COVID-19! Boo!) to find some keepsakes and objets-d’arts, browse some modern furniture pieces at EQ3, or spend an afternoon wandering spaces like Gallery260 or The Market Gallery.
Street buskers are often performing on the broad brick-paved sidewalks, the waft of fresh produce, baked goods, and roasting coffee permeates the air, and the abundant parks with mature trees and urban wildlife thread through the neighbourhood all the way to Lake Ontario, creating ample opportunity to relax and congregate. We appreciate and value how amazing it is to live amongst all of this beauty and energy. Do you?
Live Royal At Kings Court
King’s Court – situated at 230 King Street East at Sherbourne – was developed by Camrost Felcorp and completed in 2005. The 17-storey, 332-unit condominium integrated a historical bank façade (which we adore!!), making it the cornerstone and lobby of this elegant complex. It offers its residents the very best in condominium living with the nicest 24-hour concierge service in the city by far, guest suites, as well as recreational amenities including an exercise room, sauna, spa, a lounge, a guest suite ($99/night), and a boardroom. The building also features a spectacular rooftop BBQ terrace with panoramic views of the city and the lake. But what we truly love, and what REALLY makes Kings Court a standout is the location; it’s one of the best parts of downtown in which to live!
It’s About Convenience
Want to know what a Walk Score of 96, a Transit Score of 100, and a Bike Score of 99 are like? You can arrive at the Billy Bishop Island Airport in 10 minutes by taking a taxi; purchase your ticket for Via Rail, the Go Train, or the Union Pearson Express and get there in 7 minutes with Uber; enter the King Street subway by walking 10 minutes west; grab one of 10 to 15 Bike Share cycles on George Street in less than 4 minutes by foot; and catch the 504 King Streetcar right outside the lobby doors! Plus it will be a 5-minute walk north to the new Moss Park Station on the Ontario Line! Need an AutoShare (and keep the parking tenant paying $190/month for the space)? There’s an Enterprise Car Share a 2-minute walk west on King East beside Butter Chicken Roti!
We Heart Suite 412
Located near the elevator banks on the fourth floor – offering ease of access – you’ll find Suite 412! This sun-drenched 1bed+office+den, 1bath stylish unit of 700 square feet is guaranteed to fulfill a lot of your shelter wishes, wants and needs!
First, it has a fantastic, efficient layout with an open plan that’s easily delineated into zones for cooking, lounging, dining, work & sleep! But more than that, this intelligently-designed suite is a great example of scale and proportion, which allows you flexibility and fun in tailoring it to your liking. Warm wood floors ground the entertainment space while the wall of west-facing windows floods this fresh space in natural light. Dreamy!
Entering the suite’s ample foyer, the wealth of wall space offers the perfect opportunity to curate your personal art collection. Directly to your right is the perfect Work-From-Home office with a closet – tucked away from the distractions of the entertainment zone. To the left of the foyer is the guest entrance to the 4-piece washroom; no need for friends and family to traipse through the primary bedroom to use the facilities!
Are you a culinary ninja? Whether you’re a foodie or you’re only recently developing your Master Chef aspirations, this U-shape kitchen is a preferred configuration that offers a great space plan to practice the culinary arts. With plenty of cabinetry, a set of high-end stainless steel appliances, a pantry, and a peninsula that doubles as a breakfast bar, this ticks a lot of boxes. This open plan kitchen connects to the lounging and dining zones which feature wood floors, a pair of massive mirrors that refract light and expand the sightlines (included), and generous windows to enjoy the west-facing urban streetscape vista!
The den is separated from the entertainment space by a pair of doors – which can be left open or closed depending on your need for privacy – and boasts large windows that flood the space with light. It has functioned well in the past as a nursery for the previous owners, or – as it currently functions – as a second office space. Or perhaps it would serve you best as a partitioned separate bedroom (perhaps with frosted fixed glass panels)? This room offers a lot of versatility.
The sleeping sanctuary boasts great proportions, Theirs/Theirs closets, and direct access to a recently renovated pristine 4-piece bath which, incidentally, has a fantastic glass tub enclosure with gleaming white subway tile that’s a delightful modern contrast to the rustic aesthetic of the floating vanity and ceramic tile floor! Plus, it has the ultimate convenience of ensuite laundry tucked away in its own closet!
