Imagine spending the day biking the Martin Goodman Waterfront Trail, catching a live classical music performance in the Music Garden or lounging in a comfy Muskoka chair at Sugar Beach enjoying one of Oprah’s summer reads with soft sand between your toes. And then, after soaking up the sun, you can enjoy some A/C by touring through the Power Plant gallery.
It’s the ideal staycation in Toronto!
And it’s all connected by one fantastic organization: the Harbourfront Centre. They are the hub of the Toronto waterfront entertainment universe, located on Queens Quay West between York and Rees Streets!
This 10-acre site on Toronto’s waterfront hosts more than 3,500 events each year, attracting millions of visitors! It features restaurants, galleries, community spaces, gardens, art studios, an outdoor skating rink and much more! Additionally, it’s a great place to check out if you’re thinking of starting a hobby or looking to learn something new; as a variety of classes are offered year-round – everything from pottery and glass blowing to silkscreening to sailing.
Fireworks on Canada Day? The Luminato Festival? NextSteps Dance Series? Buskers at Street Stage? International Festival of Authors? Veg Food Fest? ‘Dancing On The Square’ Wednesdays?!
There’s always so much to do and see!
Curated by Melanie Egan, the Director of Harbourfront Centre’s Craft & Design Studio, a new jewellery exhibition features 36 hand-selected brooches designed by some of Canada’s most talented contemporary jewellers. The exhibition explores the story and symbolism behind one of jewellery’s most storied pieces and how brooches communicate messages of love, social critique, politics, status and wealth.
At the Power Plant, ‘June Clark: Witness’ brings together four significant bodies of work that stretch from the 1990s to the present, many of them seen here for the first time. These include June’s iconic installations Family Secrets, 1992, and Harlem Quilt, 1997, a series of photo-based works from 2004 titled 42 Thursdays in Paris, Perseverance Suite (a new project the artist began in 2021), and Homage, a collection of sculptural assemblages that, in Clark’s words, “gave me permission to be the artist I am today.” Check it out!
The best bit about Harbourfront Centre is that it’s not a tourist trap, with sky-high prices and one-time deals. No – it’s actually more geared toward city residents, offering Torontonians the opportunity to take classes, acquire seasons tickets to dance performances, rent boats throughout the summer, and the like!
Have you taken advantage of Harbourfront Centre lately? Why not make a pact with yourself to try out some of the awesome things happening under our very noses this summer – right here on Lake Ontario!

Want to have someone on your side?
Since 1989, I’ve steered my career through a real estate market crash and burn; survived a slow painful cross-country recession; completed an M.E.S. graduate degree from York University called ‘Planning Housing Environments’; executed the concept, sales & marketing of multiple new condo and vintage loft conversions; and guided hundreds of clients through the purchase and sale of hundreds of freehold and condominium dwellings across the original City of Toronto. From a gritty port industrial city into a glittering post-industrial global centre, I’ve navigated the ebbs and flows of a property market as a consistent Top Producer. And I remain as passionate about it today as when I started.
