Fiesta Farms: Our New Favourite Independent Grocer!

Voted NOW Toronto’s ‘Best Organic Food Store‘ multiple years in a row, as well as NOW’s ‘Best Local Grocery Store‘, Fiesta Farms is no longer the community secret it once was. Torontonians are coming from all over the City to explore this family-run indie grocer (& garden centre!)

Why do we love it? Despite being independent and family-owned, they carry a wide selection of Canadian organic, vegan, and gluten-free products, as well as fresh local produce that’s the bee knees! And while many specialty grocers carry such items… they’re less expensive here! And you feel like you’re doing a good thing, supporting your friends and neighbours.

 

 

Fiesta is one of  Toronto’s largest independently owned grocers, and they focus on locally grown produce and Canadian-made products. They lean toward organic products, and given that Toronto is such a melting pot of cultures, Fiesta offers a plethora of ingredients that go into many different ethnic cuisines.

I love this quote from their website: 

“Largest means we carry the range of products you’d expect from a chain. “Independent” means we can choose what those products are-who makes them, where they come from, what’s in them, their place in the local economy. Stuff like that. … And we’re pretty choosy.”

A visit to the store will let you know pretty quickly that we don’t turn our nose up at anyone, but we tend to be particularly popular with folks who get more from food shopping than just a full larder. As it turns out, food matters to a lot of people for a lot of different reasons.

We help them celebrate those reasons by making organic, local, ethical, ethnic, healthy, gourmet, artisan and traditional fare accessible. We’ve got lots of it. We keep the prices for it all reasonable. And we sell it without the pomp. We wouldn’t know how to pull off pomp if the Queen were coming to pick up a Fenwood Farms chicken.” 

 

 

But, of course, there are some less healthy treats too…  😉

I’m a huge house plant lover, and I like to keep my home green throughout the year. In the Spring and Summer months, their garden centre – the aptly named Fiesta Gardens – is overflowing!

 

 

And yet one more reason I love Fiesta Farms? They support the local commuity. I love goibg to outdoor movies in Toronto in the summer; I’ve enjoyed classics like Best in Show and Amelie alongside Legally Blonde and Mean Girls! Bring a blanket, a pillow and bottle of wine and you’re gold! Fiesta gives back to organizations like the Toronto Outdoor Picture Show – and provides snacks!
