Coastal Comfort Food At Harbord Fish & Chips

Annex / South Annex / Seaton Village, City Living, College Street / Little Italy

I grew up “behind the tweed curtain” in Oak Bay, Victoria, which they like to say is “more English than England”.

And it’s true… which is why my British parents loved it so!

Victoria is a place of tea rooms, lawn boiling, cricket and sailing. Plus it has its fair share of little fish and chip shoppes. My parents used to send me on my bike to Willow’s Galley Fish & Chips on Estevan Avenue to pick up our order wrapped in – yes, you guessed it, newspaper. My father in particular favoured fish and chips. In fact, his family used to operate one back in the old country so the meal was rife with nostalgia.

As it is for me as an adult, too.

My go-to in Toronto is Harbord Fish and Chips. It’s exactly as you would find in Victoria, so it’s the penultimate comfort food.

I highly recommend it!
