Boating & Floating At Toronto’s Harbourfront

City Living, Harbourfront

When the humid summer weather settles over Toronto with the wet weight of a steamed towel, we become all about outdoor leisure. To make the most of our relatively short hot season, you’ll find us frequenting parks and patios and embracing the restorative qualities of the City’s green and blue spaces.

July & August tend to fly by, so we like to spend as much time as possible out of the house. Thankfully Toronto is home to gorgeous green spaces, an extensive network of hiking trails & bike paths, scads of sports fields, beaches for basking, plenty of public pools, and a welcoming waterfront!

Speaking of, did you know you can rent pleasure crafts down at Toronto’s waterfront? This was a recent discovery for me  I’m late to the game!),  but what a perfect afternoon activity to do with pals or the fam this summer, right?!

Below we’ve listed a couple of options for fun on the water, all available at Harbourfront!

First, there’s the Harbourfront Canoe and Kayak Centre, where you can rent a one, two, or a fleet of paddle boards, kayaks, or canoes to paddle around the bay! They accommodate groups, and even offer summer camps!

If you need lessons or a quick refresher, they have instructors on staff to help you out! You can check rental availability on their website PaddleToronto.com. (They update availability two days before based on weather forecasts).

Here’s a snap of me kayaking near the Toronto Islands!

Second, in addition to paddle crafts, there are opportunities for sailing and motorized boating too! You can grab some friends and take advantage of the boat rental service run by Harbourfront Sailing & Powerboating (something I already plan to do later this month!)

Again, they also offer courses, training a boating license programs!

How fantastic to jump off the streetcar, stroll along HTO Beach, catch some busker entertainment, and then set sail for a tour around the harbour or Toronto Islands!

If you’re not feeling social, one of my favs is simply lying on a paddle board while being gently rocked by the waves. It can really help relax and rejuvenate you!

In our opinion, nothing beats the sizzle of Harbourfront in Summer. Check out their events calendar here, including dates for festivals, concerts, workshops, exhibits, dances, and evenings of ‘Music in the Garden’. (You can’t take advantage of all that’s happening if you don’t know What, Where, and When!)

Toronto is pretty frickin’ cool, eh? We’re so lucky to live in a city possessing one of the longest urban waterfronts in Canada. I’d wager that each of us benefits in our own way from the peaceful views, the restorative energy, and the recreation opportunities that Lake Ontario offers. (Check out our blog entitled: The Benefits Of Living Near Water.)

LOVE!

Want to have someone on your side?

Since 1989, I’ve steered my career through a real estate market crash and burn; survived a slow painful cross-country recession; completed an M.E.S. graduate degree from York University called ‘Planning Housing Environments’; executed the concept, sales & marketing of multiple new condo and vintage loft conversions; and guided hundreds of clients through the purchase and sale of hundreds of freehold and condominium dwellings across the original City of Toronto. From a gritty port industrial city into a glittering post-industrial global centre, I’ve navigated the ebbs and flows of a property market as a consistent Top Producer. And I remain as passionate about it today as when I started.
