Welcome! My name’s Tiffanie and I’m your Urbaneer go-to girl for documenting delicious, interesting, and beautiful amenities all around the city of Toronto!

Yep, that’s me in the picture above, delighting in one of my few weaknesses – fresh-baked scones! Today I’m excited to tell you about Baka Gallery Cafe; it’s a hot spot and community favourite in Bloor West Village – and for good reason!
Baka Gallery Cafe is a kind of laid-back fusion space, which makes it an easy choice for a range of occasions and moods; hit up Baka for catching up with pals over mimosas and caesars, to having lunch meetings with your colleagues, to grabbing your computer and spending some solo time with your “friend,” Mr. Espresso.
Whatever the occasion, they have you covered!

So what is it about Baka that makes them so popular? Although it’s near impossible to pinpoint just one thing, first, it needs to be said that both the food and the service are excellent. The cafe serves delicious light fair (to keep you energized), drinks (to keep you cool), organic & Fair Trade coffee (to keep you alert), and tasty treats (to keep you HAPPY!). In fact, the majority of their baked goods are prepared on-site every day, so you can taste the flaky freshness!

Maya, one of the barista team leads at Baka – who can make the most beautiful latte art – shared that she was also a huge fan of the freshly baked scones. (A kindred spirit!)
She also let me in on a little secret: their most popular dish is actually… their Avocado Smash on Sourdough! Maya recommends ordering it with a poached egg on the side or on the top (umm… Yum!)

Another reason to visit Baka Gallery Cafe is for the friendly service. After speaking with several of the employees today, I was able to tell that they all genuinely enjoy working at Baka. If you’re in the service industry, passion make ALL the difference! Micheal, the supervisor, shared that the company is family-owned; as such, they are a small team, and they truly care for the community in which they operate. How lovely is that?!

And another aspect that I truly love about this cafe is how modern and clean the space is. On the upper floor, you can rent out the space for special occasions, while downstairs, you’ll find two sections, one with seating across the bar and the other with seating surrounded by age-old brick walls with arresting artwork on display.
Moreover, the dining guests all agreed that Baka’s patio is one of the best in Bloor West Village! The team at Baka did a great job making it feel inviting, and, at night, the lights and planters turn the space into a truly romantic spot – perfect for a casual date!

Have you ever wondered what the name “Baka” means? On their website, they dedicate their food to all the “bakas” in the world, bakas meaning “grandmas” in Croatian. In that spirit, one of the larger statement paintings at Baka Gallery Cafe showcases a grandmother pulling yarn with her faithful feline companion by her side. How incredible is that piece?! Wow!
Speaking of paintings, Baka regularly celebrates local artists by featuring their work in their gallery. That’s my favourite part – and perhaps what brings in so many customers. Currently, they are showing the work of John Marion (who is coincidentally the owner of Baka) entitled “The Beauty of the Beast” which is a unique collection of photographs depicting wildlife in and around the Humber River! (Have you read my post about recreation on the Humber River? Check it out!)

Now it’s your turn to discover the delicious coffee, tasty food, and fantastic art that await you at Baka Gallery Cafe.
Happy Indulging!
