I recently embarked on a leisurely two day road trip from Toronto to Ottawa – a journey that might otherwise take five hours with the pedal to the metal – enroute to a spectacular wedding that was replete with a blushing bride, a dashing groom, and my signatory shower of secret sparkles.
Secret sparkles?
Well, what I mean – as those who know me well will attest – I had to dodge the police after lighting a cacophony of fireworks in the middle of an intersection outside a stylish culinary amazeballs wedding venue in downtown Ottawa. Although the wedding guests – and crowds of onlookers – cheered, the forces that protect all the citizen's fancy pants weren't particularly pleased with my celebratory antics. But really, don't fireworks – and a visit from the police – make a party memorable? Even when a couple is pledging “I DO”?
Prior to my bad boy pyrotechnic display, I sought solace with my best pal Vince at Angeline's Inn in Bloomfield, Ontario, which is a two hour drive east of Toronto in Prince Edward County. The Inn, co-owned by a pair of magical siblings, has some stellar designery digs that fuse eclectic finds with rustic charm.
We spent two Home Sweet Home nights in Angeline's two annex buildings – one in The Chalet and the other in the Coachouse Loft – which offer privacy, space and – in the case of The Chalet – its own private secluded garden where we lay on our blankets and watched shooting stars. Angeline's is also home to The Hubb Eatery and Lounge – a gastronomy pub with well-executed food perfect for feasting.
My favourite part?
Having dessert and Monte Cristo coffees brought to our private garden for the ultimate five-star cabin indulgence. What, I ask, could be better than that?
Here are some snaps from The Chalet
And here are some pics of the Coachouse Loft
Prince Edward County is deliciously unplugged and exquisitely beautiful. Think wine country, antique stores and a quintessentially Canadiana vernacular as seen in these images:
This was dreamy, and the sort of destination I'd take a lover to, if I had one. (Hello Universe!)
For urbanites looking for something casually stylin' and free from pretense, this authentic Ontario destination is my kind of winner!
