My College Crush In Little Italy’s Movie House!
offered at $489,000Ok, so here’s the scoop.
In the mid 1990s I was engaged to assist in the conversion of The Movie House located on the north-west corner of College and Euclid in Little Italy.
Back then the neighbourhood was transitioning into one of the City’s hippest neighbourhoods. Cafe culture was just beginning to be embraced by Torontonians well before Starbucks was on our radar. And this super fantastic area, which at the time was a domestic blend of cottages, semi’s and merchant class manses had zero condominiums, outside of the Button Factory which was the first conversion I helped convert two years earlier. So when we put up the “Coming Soon’ banner advertising the imminent arrival of 18 affordable vintage lofts, the phone rang off the hook by young local renters keen to get their foot in the market without having to leave the ‘hood.
In fact, the response was so overwhelming the project sold out in four hours without a model suite!
Fast forward 17 years later and behold this top floor loft being sold by one of those original buyers. Yup, this building still has a number of lofts which have never come to market since that first sell-out launch. And with good reason. These spaces are unique, sun-drenched, and in one of the most dynamic, friendly pretense-free neighbourhoods around.
Loft 201 has all the ingredients making it the ideal urbane swingle or couples pad. First, the entertainment zone has stunning proportions with ceilings heights that soar to 16’10” high. It’s also crowned with a massive 6’x6’ skylight that bathes the space in light, complimented by massive windows with north and east exposures. It also has wood floors, a renovated spa washroom and a dreamy designer decor. Oh, and we love the a stunning Italian Arrital kitchen with its stone floor, sun drenched breakfast bar, stainless steel appliances and that rare-to-find gas cooking!
Second, we’re romantics, so we’ve got a soft spot for the mezzanine loft which overlooks the Entertainment Zone below. We especially adore the wood floors and terrific proportions, which make this bijou aerie a magical sleeping sanctuary as-is, though we just have to point out several owners in the complex have extended the mezzanine to create additional living space.
Third, the staircase – with its abundance of built-in shelving – connects to a clever top level home office space with additional storage that walks out to a dreamy private roof top perch! Featuring a sun-drenched north east exposure, this outdoor space offers YOU the ability to barbecue, shake cocktails during sunset, and dance under patio lanterns on a hot summer’s night.
Newsflash! This loft marries style and location.
After all, where else can you walk fifty paces to a liquor store, a pub, Starbucks, an organic market, and the gym? Let alone the best in nightlife including restaurants that range from five star like Woodlot, and Giancarlos, or more rocking casual like La Carnita! And don’t forget the Orbit Room for live music, and Andy Pool Hall for the best fun, Ever!
Seriously!
