Welcome to 2154 Dundas Street West, Loft 504.
Known for its European ambiance and small-town feel, Roncesvalles Village is a wonderful amenity-laden neighbourhood. Named after the gorge where Colonel Walter O’Hara fought during the Battle of the Pyrenees in 1813 and originally developed in the late 1880’s for the Scottish and Irish merchant class, the neighbourhood transitioned into the cultural centre for the Polish community through the 1940’s. By the 1990’s, the aging population resulted in the decline of commercial activity catering to this particular community, which in turn created the opportunity for a new cycle of revitalization in the neighbourhood. As the long-time residents sold their homes, a younger creative community moved in. Attracted to the well-constructed, well-proportioned, affordable housing stock, a downtown location that wasn’t ‘too urban’, and proximity to the lake and green space, the rapid influx of new homeowners fueled gentrification and lead to the conversions of warehouses and factories that line Sorauren Avenue.
Today, Roncesvalles Village has blossomed into a community-driven neighbourhood. It’s evolution is a testament to how neighbourhoods can retain their roots while enjoying a renewed celebration for urban life. While Roncesvalles Village still retains the cultural stamp of authentic Polish butchers, bakeries and restaurants, they’re thriving among a growing number of trendy restaurants, boutiques and indie coffee houses. Spend a morning visiting the butcher, fishmonger and the veggie market all on the same stroll. For a causal night out you don’t have to go far. Savour a pizza at Pizzeria Defina and catch a film at the Revue Cinema. No plans for lunch? You must try La Cubana, one of our faves! If you enjoy quiet days in the park or taking a stroll with the dog you will not be disappointed. Green space is nearby with the expansive High Park to the west, and kid-friendly Sorauren Park just a short stroll east. The park, which opened in 1995, also hosts several sporting fields, a farmer’s market and it contains a field house for community gatherings. There are two mini-soccer fields for youth soccer, two tennis courts and one baseball diamond. Open space is set aside for a dogs ‘off-leash’ area. This area is also well served by transit, including all streetcars, the new UP Express service to the airport, a GO train to Union Station (just 11 minutes to Union Station!), and Dundas West subway station.
The heritage designated Feather Factory is a former down duvet manufacturing plant dating from 1911. Converted into hard lofts in 2008 by Plazacorp Development, this 6 storey brick building is now home to 44 authentic lofts ranging in size from 430 to 1070 square feet. Most units have soaring 11 foot ceilings, large windows that flood the open layouts with natural light, and partial 7-foot walls which separate the sleeping zones. With wood-beamed ceilings and exposed brick, these are as authentic as one can get.
Loft 504 is an efficiently-designed one bedroom, one bath unit boasting exposed brick walls, exposed wood and beamed 11-foot ceilings, and large windows with a spectacular city vista. Having just under 600 square feet, this compact efficiently-designed urban gem is anything but cold and boring. In fact, the gorgeous industrial features are akin to a New York movie set. An ample entry foyer greets you and offers generous closet space to provide storage for your seasonal-wears as well as storage for your guests. There is also an office nook with a built-in desk, ensuring every square inch is utilized. The open-concept entertainment zone is filled with natural light from the large south-east facing window, while the U-shaped kitchen has all the essentials, from the stainless steel appliances and counters, to the double sink and ample storage. I especially love the swoon-worthy ceiling in the spa-like subway-tile bath – which features metal ceiling panels that look antique. And the cozy master sleeping sanctuary invites respite and repose.
Have a pet? This pet-friendly building is next to Dundas West Animal Hospital and just a few blocks from the Sorauren Dog Park, a lush urban green space with a friendly off-leash zone for dogs. Your puppy will love living here!
While this location is ideal for those without a car, street parking permit is available through City of Toronto and a ZipCar and Car2Go pick-up zone is a short stroll away. With bike storage and common fees of $410 per month, this exceptional offering is ideal for lovers of light seeking a loft with that “WOW’ factor!
