Express Yourself On Valentines Day

Lifestyle

At Urbaneer, we’re a pretty romantic bunch. This is why we get positively giddy on Valentine’s Day. Whether you’re single or attached, today is a day to celebrate fate casting its magic spell, the joy of Cupid pointing his bow and arrow, and how we can trust the stars to align and manifest LOVE in all its forms.

Although we admire those who plan elaborate proposals – and the kooky craze for familial flash mobs – we believe less is more when it comes to expressing your personal sentiments. As long as you ‘Express Yourself’ in your own words – wistfully channelled from your heart – then we think you’ll probably be successful. The key is intention.

And if you still can’t seem to find the right words to express how you feel, there’s always one way to demonstrate your affection…

For the past six years, Steve’s chosen a Music Video that represents his ever-evolving view on matters of the heart. Having represented all the shades of love and lust – with plenty of camp – this year Single Steve picked Madonna’s 1989 track “Express Yourself”. Why? The inspiration behind the song is female empowerment, urging women never to go for second-best and to always express their inner feelings. The lyrics talk about rejecting material pleasures, only accepting the best for oneself, and embracing freedom and encouragement to women and all oppressed minorities. A hit in 1989, Steve and his besties were in the bloom of youth – and peaking in a Dance Club Culture of unbridled enthusiasm and delight. The song is uplifting, optimistic, and an excellent foundation for all matters of the heart.

Happy Valentine’s!

Do you love Valentine’s as much as we do?

Love a good video?

Here’s our 2016 naughty seductive indulgence with Madonna’s controversial 1990 video ‘Justify My Love’, our 2015 celebration of love and real estate with the B52’s Love Shack (including a cameo by RuPaul), our 2014 homage to The Captain and Tenille (Steve’s first 45 record) in Hello Cupid, the classic rock anthem “Addicted To Love” in our 2013 Happy Valentine’s post, our hysterically funny 2012 Thumpty-Thump “Love Is In The Air” post (especially for those of you who love camp).

May LOVE be with you!
