The Brand New Oakwood Station On Toronto’s Eglinton LRT Line

Midtown /

It’s opening!

The Eglinton Crosstown LRT will provide fast, reliable, and convenient transit by carrying passengers in dedicated right-of-way transit lanes separate from regular traffic. While slower than subways, LRT vehicles can carry more passengers than other above-ground transit systems. And they’re much faster than streetcars and buses!

Since they’re in their final 30-day testing period, it’s anticipated that the Eglinton LRT could FINALLY open officially in January or February. And Toronto will immediately notice the difference. Major public transit infrastructure is the basis for urban growth, as we will experience along Eglinton, where use intensification will accommodate Toronto’s ever-growing population, with a transit line ready to serve.

Right now, neighbourhoods like The Danforth, Bloorcourt Village and High Park, etc., are highly coveted – and suffering from high-price syndrome – because they are within walking distance of the Bloor-Danforth subway line, which is one of our two subway lines. Once the Crosstown is completed, it will make any property within walking distance of Eglinton (both north and south) extremely attractive and more valuable.

One of those neighbourhoods just south of Eglinton between Dufferin and Bathurst is Oakwood Village! The LRT Station soon to open in that neighbourhood is Oakwood Station, which is unique among the new stations for a few reasons. First: it’s cylindrical shape inside (which has to do with the boring/excavation technique used. Second, it’s the only station on the line that was built at a ‘T’ intersection, meaning it can be seen all the way down Oakwood Avenue, as if the artery is leading you directly into the station! Also, that extra visibility offered an opportunity to include an art installation on the exterior.

The station has two entrances: one directly north of the T-intersection of Eglinton Avenue West and Oakwood Avenue, and another west of the intersection on the south side of Eglinton. It’s also noteworthy that this station is the first one to the west of the Eglinton West (Cedarvale) subway station — so only one stop away from a transfer onto the Yonge-University line!!

It’s pretty, it’s convenient, and it’s going to enrich the community. Oakwood Village is one of the many lucky enclaves to benefit from this new Transit line.

All aboard!

Want to have someone on your side?

Since 1991, I’ve steered my career through a real estate market crash and burn; survived a slow painful cross-country recession; completed an M.E.S. graduate degree from York University called ‘Planning Housing Environments’; executed the concept, sales & marketing of multiple new condo and vintage loft conversions; and guided hundreds of clients through the purchase and sale of hundreds of freehold and condominium dwellings across the original City of Toronto. From a gritty port industrial city into a glittering post-industrial global centre, I’ve navigated the ebbs and flows of a property market as a consistent Top Producer.
