Te Aro Cafe On Queen Street East In Leslieville

City Living, Leslieville/Riverside, Restaurants

Recently, lovely Kellye worked up a serious appetite while working on this exciting new listing in the heart of Leslieville. Te Aro Cafe was a welcome oasis on a rainy spring afternoon. While the rain drops prevented her from enjoying the impressive patio (seriously, it’s huge) she was happy to find shelter in the industrial chic yet warm and welcoming space. Converted garage doors open to a space artfully filled with polished concrete and dark hardwood. The café was busy but the soaring ceilings and open windows helped diffuse the sound (good news for the numerous people working away on their Mac Books).

The sweet pastries looked particularly tempting. However, Kellye's rumbling tummy demanded something more substantial. Luckily, Te Aro Cafe offers a selection of breakfast and sandwiches perfect for a busy realtor’s hearty appetite. After a bit of debate and a mostly welcome opinion from the cashier, the growing line behind her was happy when I finally ordered a peameal sandwich and a coffee misto.

First things first, Te Aro brews a mean cup of coffee. Te Aro exclusively serves coffee by Toronto company Pilot Coffee Roasters. Bags of both their whole and ground bean coffee, along with brewing accessories, are for sale in the café for you to enjoy at home. There is no delicate way to put this – they serve a damn good cup of coffee. The sandwiches and pastries have a lot to live up to and they are very much up to the challenge. The aforementioned peameal sandwich is absolutely delicious and far more refined than its name suggests. You have to try this sandwich! A sinfully buttery pastry filled with a poached egg, thick slices of peameal, tomato, cheese and grainy honey mustard – what is there not to love?! Kellye would love, love, love to share a photo with you but she ate, ate, ate the whole thing quicker than you could say, “you have a little something on your face”. You're simply going to have to take her word for it or, better yet, stop by and try one for yourself.
