Fresh Fitness Goals For February At Studio Lagree

King West / Niagara / Liberty Village, West Queen West

Endlessly gray days, freezing fingers, puddles of melting slush on street corners that are a foot deep… February is that month that you just wish was OVER as soon as it started. We need to shake off that Winter fugue!

So, maybe it’s time to find some healthy distractions and to focus on the change of seasons (hopefully sooner rather than later!), eh?

February can be a great month to try some new activities that are fitness-focused. Why? First, we know what usually happens in December… the eating, partying, non-routining really takes it’s toll.  So to go from that to a brand new person in January doesn’t make a lot of logical sense nor does it work.

Secondly, gyms, fitness classes, and recreation facilities are typically less busy in February as the ‘New Year rush’ is typically over by then (80% drop, off remember?).  So – more space for you! Everything should be easier from finding parking to getting the times you want in the gym.

If you’re looking for some fun workout inspiration, you’re in luck! Join me, Tiffanie, as I explore Studio Lagree on King Street West – a fitness facility that specializes in high intensity and resistance-based training that will have you feeling energized almost immediately, and see your warm weather bod goals realized sooner than you’d think! (That cute two-piece that’s been sitting in your online cart? Go ahead and click ‘Checkout’!!)

Let me set the record straight: this isn’t a cookie-cutter gym, nor a yoga studio. You won’t find traditional Pilates offerings here, either. The Studio Lagree ‘Method’  – and fitness mindset – is grounded in a unique, curated approach to flexibility, strength training, and wellness. And it’s brought them international success!

For example, their trademark Megaformer – a machine that is similar to a Pilates Reformer – has added features designed to intensify your workouts and mould you into a lean-mean-fighting machine – or meet any fitness & training goals you’ve set!

For those who know and appreciate fitness equipment, from the carriage, to the resistance springs, to the cables, their Megaformer is very different from the classical Pilates machine; Sebastien Lagree, (the founder of the Lagree Method), says that comparing the two is like comparing a Ford Model T to a Lamborghini Urus. Ha!

So what should you expect from a Lagree workout?

Their signature 50-minute ‘exercise experience’ is a fast-paced compilation of drills, where every move targets core, endurance, balance, strength, and flexibility. I can already tell these workouts aren’t a cakewalk; you’ll want to bring all the focus and stamina you can muster. But one of my neighbours emphatically promised me that I’ll see results in half the time compared to other fitness modalities they’ve tried. If that’s the case, I’m sold!

The brand is bolstered by many A-List celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and Rihanna – even the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle! – who swear by the Lagree Method. I admit, when I first saw the website workout photos of ridiculously beautiful people and the tagline “the hottest workout from Hollywood”, I worried Studio Lagree wasn’t approachable or inclusive. But I was way off! There are offerings for people at all stages of their fitness journeys, and the experts at Studio Lagree are so infectiously enthusiastic and encouraging that, for once, I was excited about challenging my body – blood, sweat, and tears included!

Studio Lagree’s King Street West location is super convenient and accessible (between Bathurst Street and Strachan Avenue), particularly for downtown dwellers. Those who work in the Financial or Entertainment districts could easily pop over for a lunch break workout. Plus, if you’re reward-focused, there’s a bunch of really great restaurants nearby to grab a meal at after your workout; it’s important to restore and refuel!

I encourage you to give it a try – even one class – and get ready to feel fitness forward! See you there!
