We Torontonians aren’t shy when it comes to boasting about our city – especially in regards to living in one of the world’s most multicultural metropolises!! This enviable status is never more apparent than when exploring our deliciously diverse food scene. We’re steeped in choice and culinary excellence! How amazing is it that you can take a culinary tour “around the world” any night of the week – rarely having to venture more than a few blocks.
Simit and Chai is a relative newcomer to the re-designated West Queen West (formerly Niagara) neighbourhood’s foodie scene, but it’s an impressive selection of Turkish snacks, sweets, and beverages have already established it as a community favourite (with a decidedly global flare!)

One of our team, Cynthia, gave Simit and Chai a rave review after stopping in to indulge in a quick lunch in between appointments and staging a new listing in the neighbourhood. In fact, the owner of said listing says that Simit and Chai is a favourite spot to visit on the way home from a stroll through Stanley Park (which has a great off leash area for dogs)! The combination of delicious aromas and adorable patio seating was too much to resist. Now, Cynthia says it’ll be her go-to between showings!

Upon entering, Cynthia was impressed by the minimalist yet warm space. Warm wood floors and exposed brick copper accents combine to create a beautiful atmosphere, but never steal from the true star of the show – the food! Bagels and tea are the specialties of the house. She was torn between a Turkish coffee or a Chai but ultimately happy with her decision to forgo the typical latte in favour of a beautifully spiced tea.
While the bagels looked delicious, she couldn’t resist trying a new savoury treat – a Borek. A Borek is a flaky layered pastry filled with spinach, feta and spices (yum!). Served along with a fresh green salad, it was the perfect lunch to fuel a very busy day. She had to run but couldn’t wait to go back for dessert (the honey cakes look particularly mouthwatering!).
