Savour A Taste Of The Danforth In Toronto This Weekend

Riverdale / Playter Estates, The Danforth

One of the most fun ways to explore Toronto's neighbourhoods this summer is to attend the many vibrant street festivals the city offers. In Toronto’s east end, the most talked about and anticipated street festival is always the Taste of the Danforth! Considered Canada’s largest street festival, this three-day event is celebrating its 23rd anniversary this August 5th to August 7th!

Originally modeled after the successful Taste of Chicago festival, the Danforth's street fair has grown from a festival solely surrounding Greek heritage, to a celebration of all the neighbourhood's residents and establishments. The festival now encompasses a much broader spectrum of the evolving community, reaffirming the multicultural spirit of the Toronto.

Over the three days of festivities, visitors can sample food from community eateries, enjoy live performances, take part in family-friendly activities, or even just shop 'the strip'! All the necessities of a successful summertime weekend!

As the name suggests, Taste of the Danforth is held on Danforth Avenue, between Broadview Avenue and Donlands Avenue, just east of the Don Valley. Admission is free but be sure to bring plenty of pocket money to sample all the tasty festival treats, from mouth-watering Greek cuisine such as souvlaki and spanakopita to Thai, Indian and Cuban fare. With so much deliciousness tempting the senses, we recommend returning multiple times over the course of the festival!

We are very impressed with this year’s line-up of events, especially the “It’s All Greek to Me!” event, where festival-goers will have the opportunity to be Greek for a day: learn Greek folk dancing, break plates, and even channel your inner Artemis with archery lessons! And perhaps most exciting of all, if you weren't one of the lucky few able to swing a vacation abroad this summer, your luck may change this weekend! A number of draws will be held during the festival for a chance to win a trip to Greece!!
