Are there more ways than one to say “YUM”?
Of course there are! And you’ll be uttering many of them at Riverdale Perk Cafe!
This week I got a chance to visit the Riverdale Perk Cafe, a neighbourhood gem that’s tucked away in Riverdale, just south of The Danforth, north of Gerrard, and a 7-minute or less walk from Broadview Avenue.
What makes this cafe so special? There’s a convergence of reasons, including the quiet, verdant neighbourhood, the community of customers, the friendly staff – but most of all, the food. But don’t take our word for it; if you’re a stickler for vetting establishments via Yelp and the like, Riverdale Perk boasts 326 online reviews and a rating of 4.5 on Google. They definitely have a recipe for success!
Owner Danielle Quayle takes a lot of pride in her food. She says, “My approach to food is to let the ingredients speak for themselves.” It’s that simple! “I use fresh ingredients and innovative ideas and methods to craft our menu.”
And what a tasty menu it is! From breakfast sandwiches to delicious salads and bowls, to scrumptious lunch specials and soup, I believe they have something for everyone. Hands down, Guinness Bacon Grilled Cheese with slices of granny smith apple is a must-try!!
What’s more, they make all their food in-house! You can expect a variety of freshly baked goods, like muffins, scones, croissants, along with steaming, rich coffee to get you going in the morning!
While Riverdale Perk Cafe has nothing to do with “Central Perk” the famous coffee shop we saw on Friends for a decade in the 90s, it has been a local landmark since 2004 and is referred to as “The Perk” by locals.
Having flavourful food elevated beyond the expected cafe fare sets Riverdale Perk apart, but there’s much more! They also have a sweet & cozy indoor/outdoor space that’s perfect for catching up with friends, or enjoying some solo time reading your favourite book under one of their blankets. In colder weather, pair this with a sweet hot chocolate or their mulled apple cider – an all-time favourite among their customers!
At The Riverdale Perk Cafe, you can also purchase home goods made by local vendors, such as cooking oils, spreads, and bath salts! They truly do have something for everyone.
It’s now your time to go visit this cafe and let us know how much you love it!
