Priscilla’s In Toronto!

Uncategorized
Back in 1994, while my pal Len and I were on a west coast road trip through Washington State, we caught the Australian movie ‘The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert’ during a stopover in Seattle. An unwitting entree into the campy spectacle of over-the-top drag queens performing to ‘down memory lane’ disco anthems, the movie was hysterically fun. Based around the journey of three drag queens traveling across the Australian Outback from Sydney to remote Alice Springs on a tour bus named “Priscilla”, the film received positive reviews and won an Oscar for Best Costume Design. Priscilla subsequently provided the basis for a musical, which opened in 2006 in Sydney, before subsequently travelling through New Zealand, The United Kingdom and now Canada.

Yes!, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert: The Musical made its North American debut at Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theatre this October enroute to NYC’s Broadway next spring. And, lucky me, I’m going on Thursday as part of my birthday celebrations! Thanks Vince!

In a city chock-a-block with things to do, I love the range of cultural amenities available to we urban denizens. It’s all here at our doorsteps…the greatest gift we can give ourselves is supporting the Arts, and enjoying it! Priscilla runs to January 2nd! Isn’t that Fabulous?

It’s at The Princess of Wales Theatre, Tuesday to Saturday 8 p.m., Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday 2 p.m.,

Tickets $20 to $130
