For homeowners, one of the most important amenities is access to public transit. Why? Because having a great ‘bricks & mortar’ dwelling is one thing… but having that home well-positioned – and loving how it connects to the neighbourhood, the places you most frequent, and other spheres in your life – is even more important.
Whether you use it for your daily commute, exploring the city freely, or for connecting you to planes, trains and automobiles for travel beyond Toronto, public transit is a must. In a city like Toronto, you should consider yourself lucky if access to public transit is a just short walk or roll from home (it’s not so for many!)
What’s more, for homeowners, having access to public transit is one amenity that will easily preserve and boost asset value- a premium that future homebuyers will pay for (check out my post The True Value Of Public Transportation In Toronto). So having easy access to public transit is both an investment in the quality of your daily life and an investment in the financial growth of your home asset.
I talk about the toll of commuting in this post: What Are The Real Financial, Emotional And Health Costs Of Commuting?
In the downtown core, residents benefit from a well-designed and (sometimes) well-executed network of subway, streetcar, and buses, that rival many big cities in the world for access and efficiency. For moving beyond the City of Toronto limits, GO Transit offers a ton of options, including easy access to the airport, highways, bedroom communities, and other points both near and far.
GO Transit serves over seven million users, spanning more than 11,000 square km, and covering an area from Hamilton and Kitchener-Waterloo in the west, to Newcastle and Peterborough in the east, north to Orangeville and Barrie – and even to Niagara Falls on the south end.
Established in 1967 as a single line (how times have changed, eh?!), GO Transit has evolved and grown alongside the population of Canada’s biggest city, with routes everywhere, syncing with the other transit systems in the area, including those used in Hamilton, Vaughn & Mississauga, plus the UP Express and the TTC. In its early days, GO Transit carried only 2.5 million passengers in its first year – which is more shocking when you compare it with the 70 million annual riders (about a million a week!).
In 2009, GO Transit merged with Metrolink, benefiting from their infrastructure- including access to tons of tracks around the region. A lot of ridership centers on to and from Union Station, but there are new GO access points being built across the city – in addition to the existing Union, Dundas Station & Main Station.
There are new stops under development (including the St Clair-Old Weston Go Station, set to be completed by 2026) meaning that this system is dynamic and responding to the needs of Toronto residents- and helping them move freely and easily to their destinations, and also helping to reduce environmental impacts by having fewer cars on the road.
If you lived in St Clair West Village, your front door would be approximately a nine-minute walk to the upcoming St Clair-Old Weston Station. Imagine! In under ten minutes, you can hop on GO Transit, riding to and fro throughout the whole region- for work, travel or leisure!
Primely situated in the New Urbanism development of St. Clair West Village, we call it: Sizzle & Spice In The Junction’s St. Clair West Village Enclave
It’s a semi-detached, 2-storey, 3+1bed dwelling with a finished lower level that offers just under 1800 square feet of intelligently designed family-functional living space, in addition to a sunny, fully-fenced low-maintenance garden! Boasting a host of upgrades and improvements, and inclusive of 2-car parking (1 surface space via laneway + 1-car detached garage!), this hot commodity is NOW SOLD!
Want to have someone on your side?
Since 1989, I’ve steered my career through a real estate market crash and burn; survived a slow painful cross-country recession; completed an M.E.S. graduate degree from York University called ‘Planning Housing Environments’; executed the concept, sales & marketing of multiple new condo and vintage loft conversions; and guided hundreds of clients through the purchase and sale of hundreds of freehold and condominium dwellings across the original City of Toronto. From a gritty port industrial city into a glittering post-industrial global centre, I’ve navigated the ebbs and flows of a property market as a consistent Top Producer. And I remain as passionate about it today as when I started.
