Toronto’s Interior Design Show 2019: The Power Of Design

Design, House And Home

For one extended weekend – January 17th to 20th – Canada’s premier showcase of new products and furniture, superstar designers, and avant-garde concepts from North America and beyond, comes to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The Interior Design Show 2019 brings together the country’s leading designers, thinkers, makers, changers, and dreamers to shape the industry in the year to come.

What makes this year different? Aside from the new venue – which will afford a bigger, redesigned showfloor with never-before-seen installations – the show has been curated with a single idea in mind: celebrating the “power of design”. Karen Kang, National Director, IDS Canada, says, “This year’s theme, Power of Design, will showcase how design affects every aspect of the human experience and is so much more than interior design, architecture and product design.”

The Guests of Honour this year are:

*Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu are the founding partners of Neri&Hu Design and Research Office, an interdisciplinary practice based in Shanghai with an office in London. They strongly believe in research as a design tool, their work draws from the dynamic interaction between experience, detail, material, form and light. Neri&Hu have designed a number of industrial design products for various brands. Their projects are often defined as spatial experiences that blend new and existing built conditions using materials that create a sense of layering and screening while drawing inspiration from vernacular Asian design. (They have won numerous international awards such as the Overall Winner of The PLAN Award (2018), EDIDA Designers of the Year (2017) and ICONIC Awards’ Interior Designers of the Year (2017). Before starting their own practice in 2004, they both worked for several architecture firms in the US.)

Each year, IDS Toronto produces special features that speak to design trends and ideas that inspire and amaze visitors. This year’s highly anticipated exhibits and features that shouldn’t be missed, include:
