At Urbaneer, we’ve long been fans of the grilled cheese sandwich. It was a staple of our childhood lunches, often served with Campbell’s Tomato Soup.
Fast forward to today, and for true local comfort food flavour and flair, look no further than the Millwood Melt situated at 902 Millwood Road in Leaside. Why? Because they specialize in Grilled Cheese Sandwiches!

Aniko and Steve are a husband and wife team with a background in teaching and editing, and both possess a lifelong passion for growing food, cooking, and community! Their family has lived and worked at 902 Millwood Road for a remarkable four generations, making their latest endeavour an especially wonderful continuation of the family tradition. Many Leaside locals remember their Uncle Les, who ran a freindly fruit market back in the 1980’s at this location. (Fun fact: both Grandpa and Dad were denturists serving the local neighbourhood!) It would only follow that Aniko and Steve would want to create a space where locals could hang out, enjoy good honest food, and always feel welcome!
Patrons can ponder an assortment of specialty melts including the Tuna Kahuna (yum!!), the Green Machine (with arugula and avocado), the HAMelot, or the Rise And Shine (with crispy bacon, omelette and medium cheddar – yessss!). And of course they can whip up any kind of ‘build-your-own melt’ from decidely classic to as wildly adventuresome as you’d care to venture, choosing from a dizzying array of available comfort food components.
An added point of interest: in addition to being a master grilled cheese sandwich maker, Steve is also a spiritual teacher and the leader of GAIA (Global Awakening In Acion). He’s the author of two books about enlightenment, which are on sale at the store and online, and he hosts group meditations at Millwood Melt. How wonderful is that?!
