Oh, Dufferin Grove… this picturesque park has evolved over the years into one of the city’s most reputable green spaces! Lush and thriving, it has glens ideal for sunning yourself, tables perfect for picnicing, and wide open grassy areas for sports games. Just want to read or watch the squirrels wiggle their little tails back and forth? Theres plenty of space for that too!

What makes this park even better is there’s a year-round farmer’s market. Operating since November 2002, it’s one of the oldest farmers’ markets in Toronto. What began as a collaboration between local farmers, quickly grew to community hot spot. Since the beginning, the focus has been on fostering a direct connections between local organic farmers and urban eaters. With well over 30 vendors during their peak season, the market offers an exceptional selection of local produce, meats, dairy, fair-trade and wild options, as well as other farm products. The Market encourages consumers to go zero waste, by asking them to bring there own bags, and offer a “take a bag, leave a bag” donation, where consumers who have extra bags can drop there’s off. Or consumers who have forgetten can grab one for free. While cash is still king, some retailors offer “square”.
Happening rain or shine, this markets runs from the first Thursday after New Years Day to the last Thursday before December 24th – always from 3pm to 7pm.
Some of the vendors are King Organics, Niagara Lavender Farm, Island Oysters, Bees Universe, Robinson Bread, Forbes Wild Foods, just to name a few.

During the summer, they also put on events! Some from this year where, Poppies for the Planet, were textile scraps where saved from going to land fill to create and make flowers. Art Hive, where everyone is invited to share there creative skills, to teach, learn and have fun while creating. As well as Autonomous Objects, a tool sharing project that promotes community and skill sharing while borrowing tools for those at home projects.
This week, Carolinian Canada and the World Wildlife Fund are teaming up to give away locally sourced native species plants at the market, to benefit pollinators in the neighbourhood!
Over the years, the Dufferin Grove Farmers Market has take root in the hearts of the community and evolved into something truly special. Head there every Thursday through the Autumn for a taste of this year’s harvest! (Follow their Instagram here!)
