Chilling Out At The 14th Annual Bloor-Yorkville Icefest

City Living, Yorkville / Summerhill / Rosedale

This deep into a Canadian winter – when the accumulated slush and snow begin to feel oppressive as opposed to charming – it can be very hard to find inspiration in ice…

However, that is exactly why one Toronto neighbourhood chooses this time of year to inspire and create! The 14th Annual Bloor-Yorkville Icefest, takes place Saturday February 9 & Sunday February 10 in the Village of Yorkville Park and surrounding area!

No festival is complete without a theme; this year’s Icefest has bee branded ‘Hollywood North‘, in celebration of the success of the film industry in Toronto. You can expect to see things like a giant popcorn box, a projector, and even Oscar himself, all made out of ice. It’ll be a sparkling celebration of movie magic!

The neighbourhood will be transformed into a winter wonderland, with an incredible 70,000 lbs of ice meticulously and magically turned into sculptures, along with live ice carving demonstrations and ice carving demonstrations. The best part? Admission is free!

It’s the perfect event to grab your coffee or your hot chocolate, bundle up and wander in admiration of the beauty that winter affords.

It’s not just an event to admire ice sculptures (although they are pretty cool).  There are numerous vendors and maple syrup taffy- a real winter treat- will be available. This year, an Icefest Scavenger Hunt is being introduced, where participants will race to find the clues in and around Yorkville’s shops, boutiques and attractions to win prizes. There’s also an ice Lounge with live DJ and you can stop and chill with signature Icefest cocktails (or a warm bevvy if you prefer) at the Icefest Sassafraz Patio.

Here’s a map that marks where the sculpture displays will be! And for more information on anything Icefest-related, here’s the only source you need!

Icefest is a great reminder of the sheer joy that snowy weather can bring, living in a country that allows us to experience all four seasons! Thanks, Canada!
