Cabbagetown Tour Of Homes

Cabbagetown / Corktown, City Living

It's time to embrace the nosey neighbour within! The Cabbagetown Tour of Homes is back, September 20, 2015, 12:00pm-4:00pm!

The Cabbagetown Tour of Homes is more than 35 years old. It started as an event organized by realtors to showcase Cabbagetown’s Victorian architecture.  They also wanted to show the potential of this neighbourhood, which at the time was a poor and neglected area of the city.  Many investors had started buying Cabbagetown homes, restoring/renovating them and selling them.  In its early iterations, the Tour contributed to Cabbagetown’s rejuvenation, from rags to riches. This year’s visitors will once again have the chance to play voyeurs in some truly amazing homes. The properties selected all have strong personalities, and the styles vary from quirky to classic to a mix of both. Tour organizers promise offerings like:

• an iconic Cabbagetown home saved from neglect and lovingly brought back to life;
• a large beautiful loft that is often used as a TV and movie set;
• a meticulously restored family home with a collection of chandeliers.
• breathtaking art collections.

The tour booklet provides the address and description of each home on the tour as well as an area map to help you find your way around the neighbourhood. As the tour is self-guided, you may begin and finish at any home on the tour. While strolling the shaded sidewalks, enjoy the variety of exceptional front gardens; if you see a glass medallion in the garden, it indicates a previous winner of the friendly garden competition, Streetscapes in Bloom.

Take a break at the local restaurants, many offering special deals to ticket holders. Other special offers from local retailers also appear on the ticket. A big 'Thank You' to the Cabbagetown BIA for helping gathering all of these great special offers. Tickets are $30.00, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to local community youth organizations, while the rest funds the Cabbagetown Preservation Association and all of its programs.

How fantastic is this?
