A Taste Of Paris In Brioche Dorée On King West

King West / Niagara / Liberty Village

The wonderful thing about living in a vibrant and diverse city like Toronto is that it offers some of the worlds finest restaurants, happening bars and cool cafes for us to enjoy. For a fun night out, checking out a new, talked-about restaurant is a blast, but there are those times when a quality cafe or bistro is just the place to pick up a fast but tasty lunch on-the-go or meet up with friends for a casual, “no reservations needed” Sunday brunch. In the King West neighbourhood, that special little place is Brioche Dorée.

Located at 648 King Street West, east of Bathurst Street, Brioche Dorée originated in Brest, France. This chain of bakeries was founded in 1976 and is the second largest Bakery/Cafe chain in the world, with over 500 locations. The bakery’s concept is simply based on the idea that it is possible to offer traditional, high quality, French products in a quick and efficient manner. Healthy, quick and delicious! What’s better than that?

This modern version of the quintessential French bakery features a menu that will satisfy any time of the day. Baked goods, savoury lunch items and a variety of caffeinated beverages are readily available. From breakfast through early evening bites, items are prepared daily and just a quick glance at the menu will have you wondering how that’s even possible. The selection of sandwiches alone will impress, and the variety of baked goods will satisfy the taste buds, whether you’re in the mood for sweet or savoury.

Although Brioche Dorée is structured as a chain, each location is designed to fit the atmosphere and style of the neighbourhood it’s in. The King Street location has a modern, industrial vibe yet still inviting and cheerful. Located on the ground floor of a condo building, the bakery combines a natural feel with industrial elements featuring soaring ceilings, exposed concrete walls and other cool and modern touches like the pendant light fixtures and sleek white counters. There is plenty of functional seating for any occasion. Both communal and private tables are available, as well as a few additional tables on a small patio in the front, perfect for the hot summer days in Toronto.

If you work or live in King West, this cafe is a great place to start your day. Grab a delicious cup of java and a flaky  croissant to help you get through a busy morning. The omelet croissant paired with a steaming cup of coffee makes for a breakfast in heaven! But this spot is also the ultimate place for socializing. Meeting up after work? Need a place for a first date? Sipping a glass of wine while sharing a charcuterie platter makes for a perfect ice-breaker, non?
