A loaf of freshly baked bread is like a pair of Ray Ban Aviator sunglasses – it’s simple, classic, and goes well with anything. Who hasn’t had days where dinner meant a French baguette, a few of your favourite cheeses and a great bottle of red wine? If you’re a carb enthusiast and swoon at the smell of freshly baked artisan breads or the sight of gorgeously golden pastries, Brick Street Bakery is a ‘must visit’.
Located at 255 Logan Avenue, just north of Queen Street East, this is the smallest of all four locations but this is where all the magic happens, as more than a dozen varieties of fresh breads and pastries are baked on premises. As you enter this delightful little shop you’re immediately enveloped with the comforting smell of freshly baked goodies – many of which always find their way into our shopping bag… yet rarely make it all the way home. *Burp*
It’s obvious that BSB is a neighbourhood hot spot. As we look around and examine the wonderful selection of loaves, scones, croissants, muffins and sandwiches, the doorbell sounds persistently as a steady stream of customers enter the shop to pick up lunch and treats. Speaking of treats, they are devilishly delightful. If you love chocolate, you’ll love the double chocolate tart with rich chocolatey filling and buttery crust. And then there are the classics like the simple yet tasty butter tart or cheerful, pink raspberry macarons.
Looking at all the delicious creations, savoury or sweet, it’s difficult not to loose complete control and buy one of everything, but we managed to settle on a fresh loaf of the organic, yeast-free, walnut sourdough and for dessert a couple of butter tarts. This was a start to a fun little lunch idea for a busy day. As this was shaping up to be a busy afternoon of writing, it would be great to have a bit of brain fuel that didn’t require a lot of prep time. Check-out what we came up with!
Turns out the walnut sourdough bread was a delicious complement to the homemade bean medley soup, with a side of fresh hummus, a few kalamata olives and a generous slice of smoked apple cheddar to snack on while we write. And for dessert? Their butter tart, of course!
Using only natural, locally sourced ingredients, Brick Street Breads pays homage to the timeless tradition of homemade with recipes that will leave you feeling like they’ve been passed down from generations. Whether you’re doing a grocery run or looking to grab a quick bite, this place is love at first sniff!

Since 1989, I’ve steered my career through a real estate market crash and burn; survived a slow painful cross-country recession; completed an M.E.S. graduate degree from York University called ‘Planning Housing Environments’; executed the concept, sales & marketing of multiple new condo and vintage loft conversions; and guided hundreds of clients through the purchase and sale of hundreds of freehold and condominium dwellings across the original City of Toronto. From a gritty port industrial city into a glittering post-industrial global centre, I’ve navigated the ebbs and flows of a property market as a consistent Top Producer. And I remain as passionate about it today as when I started.
