Do you ever wonder how realtors have fun?
Here's a recent tale from urbaneer's Kimberly Alke
“Recently, I was invited to a rather unusual gathering for a friend's birthday. The invitation read something like “B.A.T.L. & B.Y.O.B” – quite the mystery. Understanding the latter, I took to Google to discover just what “B.A.T.L.” stands for: Back Yard Axe Throwing League.
I couldn't say no.
About 18 of us gathered nervously, craft brews in hand, in the rather gloriously rough warehouse space at 33 Villiers Street and awaited instruction. Two extremely smiling and friendly bear-like gents took us through the paces of how to properly throw an axe and coached us in pairs through our practice shots until we had it (well sort of had it). But back to the space for a minute – if you're a fan of anything warehouse you'll love it here. Hidden down an unassuming street most people have likely never heard of is a rustic warehouse space with dusty vaulted ceilings, cracked old windows and concrete floors,
It's the ultimate battered beauty.
Let the fun begin.
After showing us the ropes our two “axe-perts” (sorry I had to) led us through a round-robbin style tournament to rank us on points in order to set us up for the final tournament. They were ever-friendly and ready to show encouragement and give tips to help us improve our game. There were some excellent throws, some terrible ones and a lot of friendly rivalry. Equipped with our own beer fridge, we cheered and laughed and supported and jeered each other over the next few hours.
I emerged victorious.
While axe-throwing may not be for everyone, I loved every second of it. In fact, four of us have since joined the weekly league.
