Soma Chocolatemaker Rules Cocoa Culture In The King West Neighbourhood

King West / Niagara / Liberty Village

Got a sweet tooth? Brace yourself.

We recently discovered Soma Chocolatemaker on King Street West, and it was immediately apparent they're one of the premier destinations in Toronto for quality small-batch chocolate. (Okay, we may have been tipped off when National Geographic Magazine named them one of the Top 10 Chocolate Shops in the World…. in the world!!!)

All of their offerings are made in-house, and they can vouch for every ingredient. In fact, on their website, you can track their cocoa beans from the specific farm they came from to the works of art they eventually become. Their chocolate bars look almost too good to eat (I said “almost!”)

Not only does Soma sell chocolate bars, they also serve up cookies, gelato, toffee, barks, truffles, and hot cups of deliciousness like coffee, espresso and multiple flavours of hot chocolate! Take a look at their drink menu, or their entire product list! Admittedly, I have a lot of trouble making a decision with so many mouth-watering options! I feel I could stand there forever, changing my mind over and over (is that what they mean by 'death by chocolate'?)

Soma was conceived of by David Castellan and Cynthia Leung, chocolate lovers who wanted to find new and exciting ways to enjoy it! They started small – their first space was a in tiny corner of a former whisky distillery – but with the support of their loyal chocolate-obsessed customers, they've been able to expand to two stores, a small chocolate factory, a network of wholesalers, and a small team of dedicated employees who share David and Cynthia's passion!

Sure, their unassuming storefront on King and extremely friendly staff may have a warm 'mom and pop shop' vibe, but these chocolatiers are experts of their craft; their offerings, like the Peru Nacional 70% Bar, for example, have earned top prizes at the International Chocolate Awards! Here's a fab expose on their operation by the Globe and Mail!

We also found out that they do custom creations for special events like weddings, birthdays, and corporate events! Whether it’s a gathering to congratulate, commemorate, celebrate, reward, or party on, the distribution of Soma chocolate on such occasions will accentuate the mood nicely. Their entire product list is available for customization for your next event. You can even add your own twist on things, as Soma stocks a variety of beautiful boxes and bags, as well as a selection of custom tags and stickers you can add your logo or name to.

Soma Chocolatemaker has carved out a home on King Street West in Toronto, where the shop is always buzzing with laughter and excitement. Every morsel on display is a spectacular work of art and tastes even better than it looks! Stop by the store for an experience that will delight the senses. You will return to your world with a guaranteed smile!

Can you imagine how sweet it would be to have Soma just steps from your home? You'd never lack for convenient dessert or delicious gifts! Here's a crisply-styled, well-appointed, one-bedroom suite we SOLD, just one block away –> A Fashion District Perch In The Hudson On King At Spadina!

And if you aren't fortunate enough to live in their 'hood, they also have an online store!
