Optimizing Your Return On Investment

Sink or Swim

April 10, 2010

Although I re-did my washroom four years ago, I recently dropped my morning cuppa on my oval washroom sink leaving an unsightly chip that said 'damaged goods'!

Inset into a dark wood counter, finding a match wasn't easy as it needed to be both the same size and style. Moreover, in four short years the oval bowl sink didn't exactly appear contemporary any more, as the new fashion in sinks are those which are more rectangular or square. Fortunately, an easy remedy that was both stylish and affordable presented itself.

This rectangular sink allowed me to pop out the chipped one and place this new one directly over the existing cut-out hole. I re-used my existing taps and voila, I have a new contemporary look for a very reasonable cost.

Quick tip, if you're going to do this yourself, make sure you use the same brand of sink as your other washroom fixtures so you get the same colour match. What is 'white' for one manufacturer can be 'cream' for another, and it's best to ensure the colours match for visual continuity.
