In The Lounge Of Luxury
October 14, 2010
Ten months ago I decided to finish my loft in The Button Factory and take it to 'the next level', meaning I was actually going to complete the space and make it more of what I'd always dreamed of rather than what I had settled for. It was an enormous undertaking that took far longer than I had anticipated, but I suppose that's typical for anyone embarking on any form of home improvement.
My lounge was never a space I really spent any time in. It lacked the privacy I realize I require to relax, for although hardly anyone ever walked past my front window facing the mews walkway I share with twelve neighbours, there was always the possibility someone might walk by and look in which oddly left me on edge. And although I had the roll down perforated blinds which blocked out 95% of the view, at night someone could theoretically stand outside and look in at me. Not that there would have been anything of interest to see.
Here's a before pic from 2009:

For the record, the rest of my funky sectional was located down in the kitchen and was set up like this:

Part of my renovations was having a gorgeous linen drapery system suspended on a curved track across the front of the loft facing the mews. Designed by Coz Design, it resolved the privacy issue and created a small foyer to provide a better sense of arrival. Here's a past blog on the design program
Now my lounge is a place I spend loads of time in. Rebecca from Mosaicwares reupholstered my sectional for a cost less than buying new, and with the new hot rolled steel tables from StyleGarage, the seagrass carpet from Elte and the new cushions from Liloo, this room is comfortable for both entertaining and relaxing. It's a dream come true!
Here are the 'after' photos taken by my pal Greg Paupst. He's a brilliant photographer!

Isn't this amazing? I'm thrilled it's finished!
