Yum! Yum!

Goodness Graceness On College Street

June 22, 2011

If you're a regular reader of my blog, you know I've been kitchen-less for the past month while my Movie House loft gets renovated. One of the benefits is being 'forced' to dine out on a daily basis. Fortunately, I live around the corner from some fifty restaurants located on College Street just west of Bathurst. It's a real treat to re-connect with all my favourites plus enjoy visiting a whole slew of new ones. Yum!

So the other day I decided to return to Grace Restaurant at 503 College Street. The chef is Dustin Gallagher, who is currently competing for the title of Top Chef Canada. If you're a fan of this television show like I am, you saw cutie-patootie Francois Gagnon eliminated on Monday, leaving the final four superb candidates vying for the title. Though I miss Francois already, Chef Dustin is one of my favourite culinary heartthrobs. I pine for him to win.

To show our support, my friends and I popped in for drinks and a bite. We savoured three amazing dishes. First, was a beet carpaccio with spicy mustard, frisee, arugula, apple and garlic chips. It was a symphony of colour with a fresh Zing! Second was an asparagus salad with poached egg (not as runny as I prefer) with tomato and wild leeks (I loved the crispness of the asparagus!); finally, the third was a creamy strawberry lemon custard shortcake. A total tangy time sweet! Here are some snaps of the restaurant and food...please forgive my propensity to eat first and photograph last:

This is a dynamite date place or friends night out. Very relaxed. Visually enchanting. Sensational food. You can take me here anytime!

PS. Kitchen Confidential:

The kitchen counters were installed yesterday...next in line is the appliance hook-up. Stay tuned!

Have had the opportunity to visit this same restaurant a number of times and the food has always been very, very good. I agree about the decor - very snappy though some seating arrangements are more comfortable than others. Great cocktails and, overall, a fine addition to the Toronto food scene. If you are ever in Brooklyn, New York, there are some restaurants and bars that echo the atmosphere and culinary excellence of Grace including: James, Weather Up, The Farm, The Bar(n) and Al Di La. Hope to see you eating in NYC soon.
